Environmental impact assessment is a corner stone in managing the environment effectively. EIA is commonly carried out for projects and new developments in order to examine their potential environmental impacts. Not only is an EIA vital to identify potential risks and impacts to the environment, it is often a legal requirement. In this workshop, the facilitator will take you through:
- The role of EIA in the decision making and consenting process
- Requirements for EIA in New Zealand
- Practical methods and techniques to identify potential impacts\
- Identifying and consulting with affected parties
- Using EIA as a tool for mitigating impacts and risks to the environment
Dr. Rick Fisher,
Senior Lecturer, Open Polytechnic
Dr. Fisher is a Senior Lecturer in the Natural Resources Centre and teach certificate, diploma and degree courses related to the environment and sustainability.
In particular he is the course leader for Resource Management Act & Local Government Act; Conservation and Natural Resources Law; Environment & the Economy; and Environmental Perspectives & the Media. Dr. Fisher’s role at Open Polytechnic involves a mix of teaching, practice-based research, and committee work.
