ITEX New Zealand 2011

About

When IT leaders share what keeps them awake at night, developing key leadership talent always ranks at the top. Organisations need to have the ability to identify and develop their top talent to meet the ever-changing challenges of today, and even more importantly, of tomorrow. ITEX is designed to do just this.

5 Reasons Why You Should Be Here:

  1. A focus on delivering practical ideas that you can take back to the office and implement within 90 days.
  2. Gain insights into the next generation of tools and which technology will be worth sponsoring into your organisation.
  3. Leverage the wealth of experience, stay on top of developments and gather more than just ‘generic’ strategies; learn what has and hasn’t worked based on experience.
  4. Design your own programme to suit your interest areas and needs. Move between Case Study Stages, Panel Discussions and Technology Demonstration Areas.
  5. Value for money.  We have designed the event pricing to enable you to send the team and save yourself money at the same time. Access tickets for as low as $550 + GST per person (when you book 7 or more of your team).

Orange Stage – Tech Demo: Palo Alto Networks and next generation network security

Hundreds of Applications are likely running on your network right now. Many are good for business, others may not be, but they all carry some level of risk. Application visibility and application control is critical today.

The Palo Alto Networks founders, management team and board of directors have been key drivers of some of the most important network security companies and related technologies in the last 12+ years, including the invention of stateful inspection, hardware-based security, and intrusion prevention. For six years they have been restoring visibility and control over applications, users and content delivered as a purpose-built security platform using three identification technologies: App-ID, Content-ID and User-ID.

This tech room session, hosted by Palo Alto Networks, will clearly demonstrate why it is the fastest growing IT Security company today, with a live demonstration of its core technologies that have tech research firms classing it as a true visionary, with the only solution that meets its criteria as an actual Next Generation Firewall by design, not just in name only.

• How do I manage my empowered users? Can they be managed, or is stealth cloud just a fact of life?
• Should we focus on facilitating them over trying to manage them?

Yellow Stage: Living on the Edge

The story of the Kiwi company that brought Shell NZ and the transformation over the last 18 months to Z Energy. Standing up your own IT systems post divestment from a multi-national is easier said than done. It can be fraught with danger but also excitement in that in a lot of instances you have a blank canvas to work with. We would like to take you on this journey of how we approached it, the technologies used, how we implemented it and most importantly the transformation of Information Technology to Business Technology within Z.

Mark Clayton, Business Transformation Office Manager, Z ENERGY - @zenergynz

11.45

Red Stage: The open web platform in the mobile era

Mozilla is a non-profit group dedicated to ensuring that competition and innovation thrive on the Internet. In the last decade we rescued the Web from a near-monopoly and restored competition to the browser market. Now the standards-based Web platform is evolving rapidly --- mostly in a good direction --- and is defeating some of its competitors, such as proprietary browser plugins. However, it faces a fresh challenge: single-vendor platforms for mobile devices that are attracting application developers away from the Web platform. In this talk I will describe how we're trying to ensure that the standards-based Web wins again --- by developing new technologies, extending Web standards, and shipping great products on all kinds of devices. I'll talk about the challenges we face and what people who care about competition and freedom can do to help.

Robert O'Callaha, Programmer, MOZILLA CORPORATION (Researcher And Open Source Warrior)

11.45

Blue Stage: Cloud Storage: DR Dream?

The cloud breaks things up into chunks, making them easier to move around, recover, and work with in parallel. A side effect of this is that disaster recovery isn't so much a feature as a pleasant side-effect. Enterprises that use the cloud as a DR site pay a fraction of what they would if they built a second site themselves, but putting data in the cloud tends to lead to putting the applications there too. On-demand, utility-based storage means pay-as-you-go economics that CFOs will find irresistible, and could pave the way to the cloud for many enterprises. In this panel, we'll look at how cloud storage is disrupting traditional backup and disaster recovery solutions for businesses of all sizes and shapes.

Red Stage: The Business of Open Data

The revolution in Open Data is that a greater amount of valuable data is becoming freely available not only all over the world but in New Zealand as well. Some of this data has never been made public before and certainly not this accessible. The real commercial opportunity in Open Data lies in helping people discover all this data, see its potential and realise how they can make use of it to run their businesses better, make better decisions and identify new opportunities. This session will explore how it is possible to build business models that allow this while still ensuring that Open Data will be kept open and free of charge

Julian Carver, Managing Director, SERADIGM - @serenare
Brett O’Riley, Deputy Chief Executive - Business Innovation and Investment, Ministry of Science and Innovation - @ICTBRO

Blue Stage: Operating at the Edge: Mobile Device Security, Management and Policy

While some companies still follow the one-device rule most IT leaders today are moving away from it. Consumerisation of IT has created a desire in every employee to access corporate information using an array of personal mobile devices. It is now more important than ever to have the necessary policies, procedures, and operational systems in place to manage mission-critical and rapidly-growing mobile activities. This panel will discuss their approaches to supporting and managing these multiple devices.

Prof. Mark Billinghurst, Director, HITLab NZ

4.25

Blue Stage: Mobile Business Intelligence

The vast majority of organisations have largely ignored mobile BI, due to the lack of usability of earlier mobile devices. This is quickly changing as the proliferation of the Apple iPhone or Android phones, but even more so the new tablets, represents an inflection point. The portability, gesture enablement, and presence location features enhance the user experience and with the larger touch screens and interactivity the new tablet generation finally has that form factor suitable for BI analysis beyond simple report viewing.
• What are vendors offering and how will this capability evolve?
• How does mobile BI fit into the existing BI infrastructure?
• What are real world examples of mobile BI deployments?
