Dr Erica Seville
Director, Risk Strategies Research and Consulting

With a track record in both the academic and consulting world’s Dr. Erica Seville is able to bring a unique mix of experience and expertise to any project. After completing her Ph.D. in risk assessment, Erica worked in London as a risk management consultant providing strategic thinking on risk management and corporate governance issues for leading public and private sector clients. Erica also worked with JP Morgan Chase, a leading investment bank in London, as controller for one of their largest trading books and member of a ‘controls blitz’ team to manage operational risks. Since returning from London, Erica has been a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Canterbury, teaching and researching in the fields of risk management and complex systems analysis.
Erica’s current positions continue this mix of consulting and academic research. Erica is director of Risk Strategies Research and Consulting (www.rsrc.co.nz), a small company specialising in bringing the principles of risk management, business continuity planning, and crisis management together into a common framework to maximise business resilience in the face of both foreseeable and unexpected challenges.
Erica is also a research fellow at the University of Canterbury where she leads a FRST funded research programme “Resilient Organisations” (www.resorgs.org.nz). The research, which continues until mid-2010, is developing innovative ways for evaluating and improving the resilience of New Zealand organisations.
Erica has a Ph.D. in Risk Assessment and a Bachelors of Civil Engineering. For the past three years Erica has taught the postgraduate level Risk Assessment course at the University of Canterbury. She also regularly delivers in-house training courses and provides mentoring advice for risk managers.
