Using Appreciative Inquiry to Uncover and Drive your Business Success

About

COURSE OBJECTIVE
Discover and apply the powerful methodology of Appreciative Inquiry for uncovering and building:
• Organisational & strategic vision
• Culture change
• Business growth & alignment
• High performing teams
• Leadership development
"Appreciative Inquiry is a bold shift in the way we think about and approach organisational change. The ultimate paradox of Appreciative Inquiry is that it does not aim to change anything. It aims to uncover and bring forth existing strengths, hopes and dreams: to identify and amplify the positive core of the organisation. In doing so, it transforms people and organisations. With Appreciative Inquiry, the focus of attention is on the positive potential - the best of what has been, what it is and what might be. It is a process of positive change." - Diana Whitney & Amanda Trosten-Bloom, The Power of Appreciative Inquiry
Ever wondered why despite all the memos, meetings, and mergers, there hasn't been much progress in your organisation? Sometimes it can feel as if people are not only hesitant, but fundamentally opposed to change, no matter what you try to do. If you want to create a more conducive environment at work and break down silos or work on your values then you may want to take a closer look at Appreciative Inquiry.
Appreciative Inquiry is a positive approach to shifting the focus from problem solving to building on strengths . It uncovers and builds on the strengths inherent in a group or organisation. By focusing on 'what's working around here', people become more engaged and actively begin to develop new synergies that can dramatically move them towards greater progress.
Appreciative Inquiry has been adopted successfully where and when it comes to culture change, values definition, visioning, team building and mergers in both the private and public sector in New Zealand. It is a simple yet dramatically effective methodology. This course will provide you with an overview of why Appreciative Inquiry works and how it could work for you through real-life case studies.

Mary-Alice Arthur

Mary-Alice Arthur is New Zealand's leading narrative practitioner and at the heart of her work is the practice of recognising and transforming the personal and group stories, conversations and inquiries that impact on success. Her powerful results from a Telecom merger project were written up in the 2006 book Wake Me When the Data is Over: How Organizations Use Stories to Drive Results (ed: Lori Silverman).
Her work is both practical and transformational, demonstrating the belief that the wisdom is in the group, our stories are the key to unleashing our knowledge and life is too short to have a boring mission or a boring meeting.
In her almost 25 year career in New Zealand, Mary-Alice has worked for Ogilvy & Mather Advertising, the New Zealand Wool Board, and the New Zealand Tourism Board, where she pioneered both Event Tourism and the internationally recognised KiwiHost Customer Service training programme, training 75,000 people in the first five years and launching similar programmes in a variety of other countries.
Mary-Alice is currently working on The 4 Million Dreams Project, an initiative aimed at encouraging people's dreams and engaging the population of New Zealand in collectively creating a new story for the country's future.
