Transport in the future - what effect will the “green wave” have?
While transport is not the highest emitter of greenhouse gases it certainly has a significant role in this area, both in terms of cost to the economy as the price of oil rises and emissions increase. The future method of powering vehicles is changing rapidly but how we use vehicles in the future for personal mobility and transport of goods has not been addressed. Any changes in these areas may well affect the investment decisions we make now in the development of infrastructure. This paper will look at:
- Likely motive power for vehicles in the future based on international changes
- International trends in the movement of people and goods, including examples of mode share changes and differences
- What effect could this have on future infrastructure investments, given these trends?
