Module 1 - Mindfulness for improving focus

    • Introducing Mindfulness

Being Mindful is being present in a kind and non-judgmental way. It has been practiced in many different cultures, religions and times. Now there is a solid scientific basis supporting its effectiveness for increasing productivity, innovation and flexibility. It also reduces stress and helps to overcome negative emotions. This leads to an increase in clear and focused thinking which has a significant impact on performance.

    • Neuroplasticity

Mindfulness practice literally rewires the brain, this is called neuroplasticity. How this works and what is needed to achieve the desired change is explained.

    • Three brain states

Humans have three basic brain states: Achieving, Stress, Calm & Focused. We will explore these different brain states, the effect they have on the brain and body and their link to creativity, productivity, efficiency and innovation.

    • Improving focus – Mindfulness skill 1

Within minutes you will experience the increased focus and clarity, as you are guided through practicing the first Mindfulness skill.

Module 2 - A Mindful approach to dealing with emotions

    • Emotions

Negative emotions affect both the brain and the body by creating stress, which leads to an immediate reduction in focus and flexibility.

    • Processing emotions to prevent blockages to clear and focused thinking

Emotions can: Become stuck, be suppressed or be processed. When becoming stuck in a negative emotion your physiological and neurological system become upset. If this happens regularly or persists there is an increasing risk of burning out, a depression, anxiety disorder and heart failure. Suppressing emotions creates subconscious stress that is released in unhelpful and uncontrolled ways. The preferred way of dealing with emotions is to mindfully process them either when they arise or after the fact. This prevents emotional blockages and undercurrents and allows the brain to stay in the optimal brain state for clear and focused thinking.

    • Processing emotions - Mindfulness skill 2.

You will experience a quick reduction in stress and improvement of both mood and focus, as you are guided through the Mindfulness skill of processing emotions.

Module 3 - Mindfulness for conflict management & problem solving

    • Three common mistakes
    1. Blocking emotions
    2. Rushing solutions
    3. No debriefing

    • Effective conflict resolution/problem solving

Conflicts or problems cannot be resolved effectively when one of the persons involved is experiencing a significant level of a negative emotion or stress. The emotion or stress needs to be processed first in order for their brain to be able to integrate new information, learn and solve problems. You will learn how to effectively manage the stress response of others to reduce the impact of negative events and ensure a quick recovery of both mood and focus. This will make your conflict management and problem solving quicker and more effective.

    • Conflict management/problem solving– Mindfulness skill 3.

You will be guided through the practice of Mindful conflict management by experiencing this powerful skill yourself and practicing it on others. You will observe the quick reduction of negative emotions and how this technique effortlessly moves people from a state of stress into a calm state.

Module 4 - Mindfulness for changing stressful thoughts

    • Insight into stressful thoughts

One of the keys to having more control over your performance is having more control over reoccurring stressful thoughts and feelings. Awareness of your stressful thoughts is the first step in changing them. This awareness is realized through insight focused exercises.

    • Changing your stressful thoughts

After identifying your stressful thoughts, you will be introduced to a technique called ‘Thought enquiry’. This technique changes your stressful thoughts into thoughts that help you to stay clear and focused.
